My MA and PhD in history laid a foundation for a successful academic career and, perhaps more importantly, enriched my perspective. I have spent most of the last two decades teaching history and humanities at universities in the United States, Australia, and Canada, winning awards for teaching, advising, and mentoring. Yet, if academia has been my home for a long time, I’ve also had a rich and diverse career outside of it. I’ve worked as an editor (both freelance and in-house), honed my computing skills as a technical support engineer for a software company, and supported myself in graduate school by working in a bookstore and as an interpreter.
I engage wholeheartedly in the tasks I take on. My analysis is sharp and relevant. I devise effective solutions quickly and communicate clearly. I work collaboratively and engage my colleagues in our common projects. I’m comfortable in many settings and have worked in a broad range of cultures. As a leader, I motivate people, make considered decisions, and take responsibility for my decisions.
